Moskvich launches serial production of Moskvich 3 crossover

MOSCOW, Nov 23 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Moskvich car plant has resumed work on Wednesday and launched serial production of urban crossover Moskvich 3.

“The priority of the plant will be the production of electric cars on its own platform with a gradual increase of localization of the automotive components,” Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov said at the launching ceremony.

According to Manturov, large-scale assembly of Moskvich 3 car and electric cars will be launched in 2022.

The current task is to set up small-scale assembly involving local suppliers until the end of 2023 while the next stage will be creation of a universal platform for a local electric car, whose production is scheduled to start at the end of 2025, he added.

Moskvich plans to reach full technological independence by 2027, Manturov said.

The launch of full-scale production at the plant will provide jobs for about 40,000 more people, he said.
